griffin

A symbol of divine power, the griffin, is a creature with the head and wings of an eagle and the body of a lion.

I work at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the griffin is displayed in many places both on the outside and interior of the magnificent Museum building. I have heard that a griffin is a mythological protector of treasures, hence its connection with the Museum.
