I looked up Melanie's seafaring uncle's tatoo thing - a pig on one foot and a rooster on the other. Apparently, some superstitious sailors believe that since both these animals fear water, having their images tatooed on one's feet will keep said feet from going under water and get them back on dry land (where I guess the pig and the rooster will be happier and will say "whew, that was a close one!").

Earlier this week I saw Nick Lowe live for the first time. Back in the day, Nick was my favorite of my favorites. I was completely obsessed with him and all things to do with him. I suppose I should have expected that I would have a sense memory moment while he was performing one of the old songs, but it took me by surprise. I felt like my teenage self, in my bedroom, blasting Pure Pop for Now People and Labour of Lust (on a record player!) and getting lost in the music. The record player is gone, as is everything else in the bedroom. And since I sold the house I grew up in this past fall, even the bedroom is gone. So just as Nick was singing "but you still mystify" I was overwhelmed by a wave of nostalgia and suddenly burst into tears. That's the power of music, boyo.
After Nick performed (What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding, my husband leaned over to me and said, "Now is when Elvis comes out and joins him." Whatdyaknow, a few minutes later, during the encore, EC himself hit the stage. The crowd went proverbially wild.

I'm finally allowed to spill it about one of my super secret projects. C&T Publishing is producing a DVD, for their "at home with the experts" series, based on material from the Art Quilt Workbook. We shot it yesterday, at Jane's studio.
[Sean and Pat, all serious-like]
[Jane is ready for her close up]
[Jane, Chris, Pat and Karen]
[Pat arranges my stuff while I try to remember what I'm supposed to be doing]
[only 27 more scenes to go]
