hallowthanksmas

I have an MFA in costume design, so I always took Lex's Halloween costumes very seriously. Here are a few photos from Halloweens past.

gifts

Quilting Arts Magazine's special holiday issue, Gifts, is on the newstands now. I have an article in it about charitable giving (and post cards), in which I mention some of my favorite charities, like the Elephant Sanctuary, Habitat for Humanity and A Place to Bark. Check it!

IF ... grow

I'm really far behind on Illustration Friday. I've missed some really good topics. I decided to do "grow" even though it's long gone, because I was using these images for something else (which I'll post in a couple days).

vacuuming

My little dog is afraid of almost everything. Thunder, squeaky toys and even three ring binders send him into a frenzy. But the vacuum cleaner is a different story...

I'm it

Last week my so called "friend" Natalya tagged me in a popular internet meme. So now I'm to list 7 random things about myself and then tag 7 other people. My "about me" section is pretty much a list of random things, but I believe I have enough quirks that I can come up with a few more.

1. I was named after a character in a children's book.

2. I was born on December 12th - the 12th day of the 12th month. For my 12th birthday, my mother gave me 12 gifts and each gift had 12 parts.

3. I like to pinch snapdragons and make them snap.

4. I was once knocked out cold in a bar by my hockey player boyfriend.

5. I'm the one in three people who is unable to curl his or her tongue.

6. I have a little creature that lives in my kitchen and guards the produce.

7. I don't like it when people split infinitives.

I can't bring myself to tag anybody else, so the meme will have to end here. peace out.

ten twenty-one

Eighteen years ago today, on my mother's birthday, my beautiful little son was born. Before he arrived, I bought "grown up" clothes that I thought might eventually fit him. Every October 21st since, I've taken his picture wearing said clothes. Here are a few of those pictures...

IF ... open

This week's theme (open) was a tough one. I went with the open mind/spirit idea. Green Tara - Buddha of enlightened activity.

new stuff

So. I know I haven't posted any work lately, but I really am working. I'm just working on super secret stuff that I'm not allowed to publish. Tonight, however, I made two small quilts that I can show y'all.

see ya.

play one more for my radio sweetheart

We just got back from the Arena at Harbor Yard, Bridgeport, CT, where we saw a triple bill - Amos Lee, Elvis Costello and Bob Dylan. So now my ears are ringing and my voice is all raspy (I'm a woohooer). No cameras allowed, so no pictures to post. (the one above is from another show - anybody know who that is?) Amos Lee was amazingly awesome, which means now I have to see him whenever he plays around here. Elvis did an incredible, somewhat politically charged set. Even though I'm a long time EC fan, this was the first I time saw him live, and consequently, the first time I ever heard my two favorite EC songs live (Veronica and What's So Funny), which was tres cool. He told some good stories too. My sister and sister-in-law are both totally obsessed with Bob Dylan, so I apologize in advance for this...I'm not a big Dylan guy. He was really good, but I don't know a lot of Dylan songs (except for the biggies) and even those were kind of hard to recognize. But he puts on a good show, and he sure does have lot of obsessive fans. Not that I'm knocking obsessive fans. I too am an obsessive fan of what I refer to as my "holy trinity" - Jeff, Ryan and Rhett.

My head is spinning and my legs are weak, goose step dancing, can't hear myself speak...

update: my husband just sent me this message...
