muladhara

This week I'll be doing Chakras, starting with Muladhara. Thanks Jennifer for the suggestion.

Kaustby

I'm in trouble already with the chairs. Straight lines and symmetry - what was I thinking? I drew a bunch of chairs today and this one was the least bad, so he won. But the print is worse than the drawing, so I'm posting the drawing too. Yesterday's chair is an Ikea chair that's in my studio. This one is from the Ikea catalog (hence the Swedish name).

he feels lucky to have you here

Following a suggestion from Karoda, I'm going to carve some chair blocks. Thanks Karoda!

learning to fly

One more Art*o*mat birdie. I remembered after I carved him that I meant to reverse him so he wouldn't look quite so much like a previously carved art*o bird. Too late. I'm still contemplating what to do next (plus I'm scrambling to hit a couple deadlines this week).
peace out my homies

Not being negative, I've just done yes and maybe, so it was time for no.

maybe

Maybe. Because I'm contemplating the suggestions that people left for me on yesterday's post. And because it's a good word. Maybe. It's kind of full of potential - of what might be.

too legit to quit

Okay. This is weird, but it was something I needed to make. I was at work (Katonah Art Center), and for reasons I don't need to bore you with, it came up that we needed a "sold out" stamp. I volunteered to carve one, noting that I've been carving a block a day for 10+ months and I can't think of anything else to carve. My dear friend and co-worker Alek said, "so you're sold out of ideas!" So yeah, I'm sold out of ideas, but I have a couple months to go so pleeeeeease leave me suggestions. :)

singing in the dead of night

I know, I know. I've made a million black bird stamps. I do have a legitimate reason for making more. I'm (finally) working on a new art*o*mat series - see below for some from the first batch.

hope

I've had an Obama sticker on my bumper for 4 years. That's right, 4 years. Immediately after hearing Obama's keynote address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention (click here and here), I went onto cafepress.com and bought a bunch of Obama bumper stickers and buttons. This was of course when he was running for the Illinois Senate. I live in New York - very few people around here knew who he was so I got some interesting comments about it. One dude even asked me why I had an Osama sticker on my car - to which I replied "OBama, not OSama, you idiot." So I explained for a couple years that some day he would run for president and I was showing my support. Eventually, once he announced his candidacy, people caught up with me. Then I started to get respectful comments from people - "how did you know?" kind of comments. When he won Iowa, people started calling me - to congratulate me (including one relative stranger, who called me to say "your man is gonna do it"). Whatever happens in today's vote, I'm proud to be a Barack Obama supporter. I'm proud of what he represents and hopeful that he can bring our country back from the last miserable 8 years.

peace

cranium + mandible

whew. Here's the original drawing and all the parts put together. The print skelly looks like he might need a chiropractor. He doesn't have a spine though. Hmmmmm.
