summer camp v. 2 day 2

So today was paper bead making day at KAC . We cut skinny strips of fancy scrapbook paper and rolled them on skewers, with a dab of glue to keep them together. VoilĂ . Paper beads.

We mixed them with glass beads and sequins to make necklaces,
bracelets, anklets and earrings.

We also made paper tag charms, which we'll use for necklaces tomorrow.

...and we celebrated a birthday

stay tuned, y'all

art*o*mat & rockin' the river

For the past few years, I've been lucky enough to be an Art*o*mat artist. Art*o*mat machines are retired cigarette vending machines that have been converted to vend art. There are 82 active machines in various locations throughout the country. I just finished another batch of my Strange Bird pieces - little felt and fabric birdies, that fit into a cigarette box. I still need to make about 50 more, to take with me to the 10th anniversary bash in Winston-Salem, NC, in a few weeks.

On a different subject, last night I went on the Old 97's Rockin' the River Cruise ("Listening to your favorite artists while sailing past the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, the Brooklyn Bridge...you've never seen music like this before"). I couldn't get any good shots of the band - got there too late for my usual front row position...

so I concentrated on the view...

the streets of where I'm from

Yesterday I said goodbye to my childhood home, a beautiful old renovated barn, for the last time.

I was feeling nostalgic, so I took a side trip to New Cumberland, PA.

My grandparents' house now.

And when it was new.

As always, I did some drive by photography.

self portrait, driving

I spent yesterday driving across Pennsylvania again, with only Ryan and Jeff (Adams, Tweedy) to keep me company. It's a long drive and sometimes I get bored. For some reason I thought I needed a self portrait or two. It's pretty hard to take good pictures while you're driving.

summer camp - day 5

Friday the 13th and the last day of this week's summer camp at Katonah Art Center!

In the morning altered art camp, we made Artist Trading Cards. Nobody traded though, they all liked their cards too much.

Then the kids finished (or almost finished) their altered board books). "What did you do in camp this week?" "We watched paint dry."

In world crafts we made Aboriginal didgeridoos.

Then we gave ourselves headaches trying to play them!

I love my job! Now to spend a couple hours in the hot tub and go see my pal Mike and his band The Crevulators play some loud rockabilly music.
