a skull a day
My brilliant friend Noah Scalin made an appearance today on the Martha Stewart Show, where he (and Ms. Stewart) carved potato skull stamps. I didn't have any potatoes, so I carved an apple instead.
Now that I've made another skull, I'm going to spend the rest of the month (or try anyway) doing Halloween and dia de los Muertos imagery. And I'd like to take this opportunity to ask for suggestions for what I can be for Halloween, as I have a "costume mandatory" event and not a thing to wear.

what fun - and how perfect, having the seed pattern make up the nose - I love that! Apple added her own signature to your print:)
Thanks for the nice mention!
You should be a Sexy Recycling Bin! I actually saw that costume in a shop in South Carolina!
I'm going to have to give this a try! Our kitchen fireplace mantle is covered with skeletons for the season; I'm a big fan of Dem Old Bones!
Waldo from Where's Waldo.
cool! apple printing..
hmmm... as far as costumes, i have the same problem as you, and now trying to decide between Marilyn Monroe or a pirate.. what to do...
how about going as Janis Joplin? you seem to run with the kind of crowd where dead rock stars might be appropriate to the occasion. (and at least you'd be comfortable)
I'm going to suggest to you what people keep suggesting to me...be an Art-o-mat machine. You could be one of the tall styles (like my machines).
Thanks for the costume suggestions y'all. I would like to be a thing instead of a person. The one idea I have is a specific thing, and I'm trying to figure out how to do it. I love the recycling bin and art*o*mat machine ideas! Both are possibilities. I'm tall, skinny and geeky, so I look a bit like Waldo without a costume. And of course, I do run with the rock star crowd. We'll see. I have a few limitations, costume-wise (I need some exposed skin - you guys who know me well can figure out why), so that will have to come into play as well. Keep those ideas coming and I'll let you know what I end up doing...
ai-yi-yi -- a tall, skinny, geeky, semi-nekkid... thing? don't ask for much, do ya?
an x-acto knife, maybe?
yeah, a tall, skinny, semi-nekkid X-acto might work
This turned out better than Martha's potato, LOL.
