radiate
While it might not look like it, this is actually based on a pre-Columbiam terracotta seal of a radiate sun. Bet you didn't expect me to go all pre-Columbian on you.

your 6-planets-in-Leo pal would enjoy seeing some such block...
there is Western astrology as well as Eastern, y'know.
Leo is ruled by the Sun.
Shine on.
That can be arranged.
I really wish more people said things like, "I bet you didn't expect me to go all pre-Columbian on you."
I've been lurking but I wanted you to know you've inspired me to get back into block carving and print making.
I am loving every single day and every single detail! Thank you so much for sharing. This sun reminds me a bit of the first swirly circle you showed. It would be interesting if you carved blocks that nested with each other or acted as a set, while still interesting as individuals. (Wait, maybe I should try that myself.)
Elin, we do seem to be on a similar wavelength with our designs. I was quite surprised to see your recent birds. I have always been love with black birds & that is probably why I purchased your book without knowing the contents -- it had a black bird on the cover. I fell in love with black birds doing a painting last year & now I'm finding them in my newer pieces. Maybe I SHOULDN'T look at your blog!
I find carving my own stamps such a freeing thing to do & when I get stuck, I just carve some more or play with the stamps I have already made. I'm thinking of trying some spikey plants next.
This sun is so striking and yet so simple. Another wonderful carving.
I have to finish moving into my studio one of these days...LOL. I know I can come up with some sort of use for all of my old carvings -- you are SUCH an inspiration, Elin!
ooh, thanks. I'll look forward to that (lion stamp). At some point. When deadlines &c yield somewhat.
